MCW8YNWO0DIf you’re a woman struggling with PCOS and insulin resistance know that there is hope.  If you’re like me and many of my clients, you feel frustrated at how slow your weight loss is or how rapidly you are gaining weight.   You exercise every day only to find out that your jeans fit tighter.  The reason for this is that you are insulin resistant.  You can try taking cinnamon to help aid with your weight loss along with a PCOS-friendly diet.

I know how frustrating this disease can be, which is why I have created this site, community, and my practice. Even if the fact that 5-10% of American women end up with PCOS is not comforting, know I am here to support you.

There is no cure for PCOS, however you can still find freedom from PCOS symptoms and feel like your old self again by following a PCOS friendly diet and lifestyle.

Resistance to insulin increases the body’s insulin levels. A pilot study published in 2007 by Fertility and Sterility showed cinnamon to greatly reduce insulin resistance in women with PCOS. The study showed that cinnamon reduced insulin resistance by increasing phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activity in the insulin signaling pathway. This potentiates the action of the insulin. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase are a family of enzymes involved in cell function. Half of the women who took part in the pilot study took cinnamon extract for 8 weeks, while the other half of women took a placebo. After the 8 week period, both groups of women were tested using fasting and 2-hour oral glucose tolerance tests. The group who took the cinnamon had greatly reduced insulin resistance compared to the placebo group.
